Indian Oil Corporation, has opened the India's first self service petrol bunk at Delhi. The vehicle owner can operate the fuel nozzle at the petrol bunk fill the required amount of fuel into the vehicle by paying cash or swiping a credit or debit card at a terminal placed on the petrol bunk.
Initially, IOC will have a attendant near the self service pump to ensure that the vehicle owner understands how to use this system and handle the fuel nozzle. Once awareness grows, the fuel pump attendants will gradually be removed from the self service outlets. Now, there are two major advantages of this system. One: It could result in the concept of more 24 hour petrol bunks in India which can function even without petrol bunk attendants. The second big issue that will be solved is of cheating at petrol bunks.
